I sat next to the Duchess at Training…

Ok, not as catchy as the famous limerick that begins in a similar fashion but not even Duchesses get away without doing their training

Everybody in scouting who helps out more than once a month has to do some introductory training and the leaders do even more than that. Every section is led by at least one adult who is either in the middle of, or has finished, a 19 module training scheme that covers everything from the Data Protection Act to camping skills. Don’t worry, it’s all offered in bite-size chunks over a period of a few years.

Don’t let a lack of experience put you off volunteering, you name it and scouting can train you in it.

As I left, they were playing a jumping challenge game and before I got there, they’d been knotting and doing something with hula hoops (i’m guessing a hula challenge).

1990 on film

We’ve done the slides, we’ve done the negatives and we have an archive of over 70,000 photos from our 67 year history at scoutsphotos.com

We’ve started on the films and 1990 is now online . You can subscribe to our youtube channel where we publish all our videos (edited and in full)  but here are the edited (ish) videos that we’ve done so far.

Thunder says ‘gong hei fat choi’

We cooked up a Feast for Chinese New Year. Make sure you get your scouts to cook for you. This came in at less than £2/head. Bargain!

Paralympic volleyball

843781_491197720924148_1834223559_oAfter years of playing crab football in the hut we took some inspiration from The Paralympics and had a go at sitting volleyball and it was a brilliant success.

We followed it up with a rather chaotic world tradig game that let some of our younger scouts show their leadership skills. If we can turn them into PLs, we should have a fun few years ahead.

Half a beautiful hut

While we’ve been enjoying our time off, John has been hard at work sanding and painting the hut. He’s done half of it.and it looks awesome.

Woe betide any child trying to scrape this paint away!

Chips and paper chains

Only 12 scouts last night thanks to.clashes with local carol concerts so we jumped into.the minibus for an impromptu chip survey.

image

Waiting for chips

Results to follow… We came back, made paper chains ans forgot to collate the reviews! D’oh!. It was more just a chip crawl than a chip survey, oops.

Home safely from Belgium.

We made it safely home with only a couple of hiccoughs. Everybody safe and healthy but rather sleepy. Facebook posts suggest that some of the scouts stayed home today but hey! I was in work at 8.30 today so no sympathy here 🙂

Obviously we discussed leaving him behind...
