Thunder chopping wood

I looked in on explorers last night and realised that I’ve failed with the current batch of younger explorers who have no idea how to chop wood in the wet to start a fire.

Tonight we taught the scouts how to use axes and saws (or just ran refreshers for some of them.  We’d like to have been outside but it was way to muddy and horrid. Hopefully we’ll ge some fires burning soon.

Next week we finish off the fire safety badge too.

Backwoods cooking @ explorers

The explorers bundled down to Frylands wood to see who could make the most adventurous and imaginative meal over a fire.

The winner was Dave Cole with his 100% homemade calzone.

Halfway through the day, we’ve seen vultures, falcons, owls and eagles. Later we’ll see meerkats and the cheetah (we hope)

Parachute games at Beavers

It’s raining so the beavers are indoors playing shark attack with the parachute.

Zumba Night!

Zumba night for the scouts tonight. It seems the boys are more confident dancers than the girls and the leaders are utterly unembarrassable.

Massive success and thanks to Elsa and Anna who got us all dancing.

Looking after your teeth

Excellent nights last week when we built our own false teeth… Not as easy as it first seemed and who’d have thought that it could be turned into a competitive sport? But we managed it. Best teeth placement won a prize.

Oh… and nobody (including leaders) knew how to brush properly…

Church parade thank you

Thanks to everybody who turned out for Church Parade this morning. There was a great turnout from all the sections and we looked very smart together.

It’s always good to welcome non-catholics at the parade and again we saw a mix of faiths from the beavers, cubs, scouts, explorers and leaders.

Special thanks to Oliver and Caitlin who read so well and to all our flag carriers and helpers at the offertry.
