Base Marshalling for St Christopher’s Fun Walk

The scouts and explorers donned their onesies and spent the day at Keston Marshalling Bases 24&25 of the St Christopher’s Fun Walk.

We were signing cards and giving out water as well as encouraging the walkers on their way. For some of them, we were at the 10-mile marker with only a mile to go.

Rob’s mum passed through our base and for some of us, her t-shirt reminded us why we were there.

Pop-Up Dining Gourmet Night for Cancer Research UK

They wrote out invitations to their parents, they planned the meal, they chose a charity (Cancer Research UK) and they served up a Gourmet Dinner for their parents. They had it all set up and put away again in less than 3 hours – google ‘pop up dining’ to see how hip we are… next thing you know, we’ll be wearing specs with no glass in.

Didn’t they do brilliantly?

We’ve not been able to do bag packing for the 5th this year and that normally brings in over £1,000 so this is very important for us. We don’t get money from the borough, from the government or anywhere else… we have to raise every penny that we spend and we either spend that money on boring stuff like utilities and insurance or cool stuff like go karts, archery kit etc! Nothing is wasted.

We are careful with your money

The Fifth has doubled in size in 10 years and, to match the growth, we have had to buy an awful lot of kit. We welcomed girls in 2007 and that meant we needed more new tents, toilets and changing areas. We are careful with your money and we shop around for months to find the best deals for The Fifth. How about some examples?
