What is Summer Camp?

Nine Days in a magnificent field with huge woods attached. Camping with their friends, the scouts will works in teams known as patrols and will be challenged with a whole host of activities.  Activities to fill their time are being worked on but… they include:

Powerboating

We’ll charter a powerboat to take us down the Stour estuary to see the seals who live there. After a sedate and gentle cruise, the RIB heads out to sea and the skipper gets to show off as he takes us on a thrill-filled tour to the off-shore windfarm. He promises an adrenaline fuelled trip.

Backwoods camping

We’d be crazy not to take full advantage of the woods that are all around our campsite so we’ll invest in hammocks and we’ll try some back to basics camping. (Although other groups who use hammocks tell me that they are the most comfortable way top sleep on camp.

We’ll try new cooking methods that we learned from American scouts in Kandersteg and we’ll try new recipes and fires that we are itching to experiment with.

Days out

There’s a world of touristy stuff to do locally so we’ll make sure that the scouts get to explore the local seaside towns. We’ve found beaches nearby with lifeguards so we’ll spend some time at the beach.

Swimming

There is a pool in Deal that is perfect for the scouts – flumes, wave machines etc…

lots of other activities that we are still working on

Locally there is a skate park, fishing lakes, windsurfing schools, bike hire and more. We are going to go down to the site a few times to find out what is available but there will be a choice of activities for the scouts to pick from.

On site we’ll have plenty to keep us busy

archery, shooting, rockets to build, bikes to ride and so on… We’re trying to arrange Mass on site as well.

Cost:

It will cost £260

We are very careful to keep costs as low as possible. 7 days at PGL in the summer start at £459 and are generally well over £500. We manage to offer 9 days for half that!

Deposit: £25 to be paid by the end of March (we need to book some stuff and buy other things in advance)

Number of Scouts:
Name of scouts:

If you can only come for part of the camp, we can work out a reduced cost depending on the activities etc that you take part in.

Balance: £235 to be paid by Friday 29th June,

Help with costs

If you talk to one of the leaders before the end of march, we can apply to a number of sources for help to get your child on camp. Please Please do this. We can normally reduce the cost quite significantly for families who would not be able to send their child on camp otherwise. The Canadian Scouts call this “no child left behind” – I like that.

We have kit to lend out

There is the kit list at the bottom of the page.

sleeping bags, karrimats etc…

Guide to outdoor kit (click here)

Your children will not have as good a camp if you don’t send the right kit! We can help you choose the right stuff etc etc but please look carfeully at the kit list and gear guide.

please bring a cake
we have 8 teatimes during the week so cakes are guaranteed to be eaten! All gratefully received.

How to get there

Camp will start at 1pm on Saturday 28th July. Camp will finish at 1pm on Sunday 5th August.

Who are the leaders?

There will be a big leadership team from both troops as well as team of additional helpers and assistants. We have scouts who are new to the 5th so we should explain:

*most adults are 1st aid trained
*all adults are CRBd and we have safeguarding procedures in place
*the event leader is trained to run Residential Experiences and there is ongoing assessment of the skills required
*we can cater for allergies and other dietary requirements
*we run safe, happy and exciting camps all year-round.
*we can answer your questions

The kit list is at the bottom of this page.
